Shea Freelove and I go way back. Two Humboldt Festivals, a couple of Lodi/Damento encounters, and the unforgettable Reggae on the River collaborations. So when he called me up and asked if I could come up for the final performance of his Freelove Circus Tour, I said I was down. This being Humboldt, I figured it would be a reasonably low-key, but fun event. I was wrong big time. Think the largest, most swanky theater in the region. Think good crowd size and huge energy. Think of acts ranging from flamenco dance, to Carnival dancers to clowns. Think massive curtain call at the end with the whole crowd dancing. My boy pulled it off in high style. I was impressed. Other highlights in no particular order include: Breakfast with the whole cast in the morning before the show. Humboldt pizza and beer--it is the best. The wild after-party with all-girl Twister (I just sat in awe...). Performing on the grass at the huge Arcata Plaza Festival (what's the real name of the event?). I want to thank my wonderful host Lindsay Bond for putting me up and for hooking me up with a great song and a cool cat graphic!
